Award!!!!

WTML got her first award! Zoe Crook, brilliant bloggette from Bookhi, had given me the 'Stylish Blogger Award'! YAY. I call this a time for celebration, with muffins (latest obsession), and while we're on the thought of muffin, s'mite I mension that I have started a new blog on normal stuff (like Let's Go To A Journey, all about day to day life, blahblahlblah). Written the same style, still with bookish stuff... If it sounds your thing, head over there now. The link-thingy is on the side with the other fabbytastic ones!
ANYWAY. Back to my award. First one, too! Big hugs to Zoe who gave this to me - now for my seven facts you might not/might do know, and the fifteen lucky ones who I am passing this onto...

Seven Things You NEVER knew!
1. I couldn't throw a ball in benchball until last week. :P
2. My dream is to either be a teen novelist, cake decorator or interior designer for WAGs and Paris Hilton-alikes.
3. I started ballet lessons when I was four but quit the week after because the teacher wouldn't let me eat a custard cream at the rest break.
4. I've always attempted to keep a diary, but never write in one longer then a week.
5. I plan to take a gap year before college and go to Parisian fashion shows, Venice boat rides, trips to see koala bears in Austrailia and bead-shopping in India.
6. My all-time favourite foods are peanut-butter on toast, McDonald's burgers, fish and tartare sauce and strawberry ice cream with hot fudge sauce drizzled on top!
7. If I could, I'd go back in time to the 1920's and be a flapper living in exotic, lively London, wearing tassle dresses, smoking and drinking myself stupid, and basically having a life rain-free and much more interesting then the one I have.

Lucky fifteen!
1. The Beaucoup Review - Ria.
2. Bookster Reviews - Cliona.
3. Books Are A Girl's Best Friend - Stephanie.

Expect good reviews of I'd tell You I love You, But then I'd have to Kill You (phew!) and Dreamer Ballerina, in the coming week or so, and my Wishlit Wonder on Sun.

Toodalo!

a sort-of IMM.

IMM is In My Mailbox, right? I suppose this is onee of them. But it isn't. But it is. No. Yes. No. Yes. GAH!
I meant to start of with apologizing for the lack of POSTS. I'm sorry, I've had a hectic week! I've read and read, however, in every minute I can squeeze in. So, this is a little list of what is to come, all the books to be read and reviewed....

Rumours by Anna Godbersen
Eleanor: Crown Jewel of Aquitaine by Kristiana Gregory
Beads, Boys & Bangles by Sophia Bennett
Matched by Ally Condie
Bright Young Things by Anna Godbersen
Anastasia by Carolyn Meyer
Ballet Shoes by Noel Straitfeild
Blue Bloods by Melissa De La Cruz
The Clique by Lisi Harrison
Vampire Academy: Last Sacrifice by Richelle Mead
Doomed Queen Anne by Carolyn Meyer
I have a huge love of history. That list is pretty much preoccupied with Russian grand duchesses, doomed queens, pure-blooded dominents and girls who's stories are always complicated, set in the past, present and future. And that's what I love about YA. The way the author uses real life but makes it much more exotic and exciting then the regular classwork and teasing us normal teens go through.
Sorry for the short post. There'll be number five of my challenge, followed by a review later in the week. Nothing else, I'm afraid until at least a week today - I hate leaving everyone in tithers, but my birthday (thirteen, thank GOD) is on Tuesday so I'm preoccupied with that! Hopefully more novels are involved. This blog needs filling!
P.S Awesome book blog Heaven, Hell and Purgatory is holding a huge giveaway, to either win a copy of a book reviewed in January or a selection including the amazing Entangled by Cat Clarke! Check it out soon or you'll miss out on some brilliant chances to win some reading goodies - head over here: http://heavenhellandpurgatory.bookreviews.com

Review: The Luxe by Anna Godbersen!

Every bookworm has the one book they have been desperate to read. They're scrimped and saved, only to splash the cash on chocolate (just me?), they have attempted to steal a copy from Waterstone's but chickened out at the history section, and torn their hair out because the nearest library to have a copy is as far away as me to you. However, I did get to FINALLY hold the copy of my must-read on the fourth of January and punch the air - I'll stop babbling and get on with it.

Imagine, if you will, New York City, 1899. Society's elite: the glamour, the grandeur, the glittering parties, the most handsome beaux, the most beautiful debutantes... the rich girl, the humble boy, the forbidden love, the stolen glances, the whispers, the scandal, the mystery, the revenge. You are cordially invited to step into The Luxe, where the secrets are dark and the sins are delicious. R.S.V.P
This book is more delicious than an jammy iced finger. I adored it. There isn't much flawing in the history, the sumptuous clothes are accurate and have you sighing with jealousy, and the love triangles and twists are cleverly planned and carried out in such good dialect. Anna writes a dream - the details are fantastic, the dialogue is witty and the plotline is stuck to. My only personal fault in the novel was the main character. Elizabeth was bland to me, with a tasteless personality like a wet lettiuce. OK, so maybe she should be, but it seemed silly to play make believe with her forbidden love, stable boy Will!
Penelope was one of my guilty pleasures. At first you think she'll be the perfect society best-friend, but her true side of jealousy, revenge and the desire to do what she wants to be on top came out. She had a pair of sharp talons, clawing at anything that benefits anyone but her, and this draws you in. Her love rival, Diana (Elizabeth's sister), was my other favourite. The way her and Henry innocently fall in love is beautiful and she seemed like my kind of person. Impatient for a life of adventure, the book ends with her in and good position. It leaves you hanging on for all the answers.
My copy has the opening prologue for the next in the series, Rumours. I have read this one too, which is just as good and ends with a sharp, but A-MAZING, twist. I am awaiting Envy, book three, but the post hasn't come. But while I'm thinking about early 1900's Manhatten elite monsters, you'll be buying book one and licking it up faster than a sticky doughnut!

Weekly Wanted: Wishlit Wonders #3!

I can't believe I'm on week three of the meme created by Amber and Rachel! I'm waited until now to post because I've been watching the Golden Globes. Natalie Portman looked beautiful - I want her dress - and I'm so happy that she's pregnant. She so deserved that Golden Globe. These three wishlit wonders all deserved Golden Globes in my book:

1. The Time-Travelling Fashionista by Bianca Turetsky

Louise Lambert has always dreamed of movie starlets and exquisite gowns and longs for the day when she can fill her closet in her normal surburban home with stylish treasures. But when she receives a mysterious invitation to a vintage fashion sale in the mail, her once painfully average life is magically transformed into a time-travel adventure. Suddenly onboard a luxurious cruise ship a hundred years ago, Louise relishes the glamourous life of this opulent era and slips into a life of secrets, drama and decadence...

Official Publication Date: April 2011

2. Jessie Loves NYC by Keris Stainton

Jessie's just arrived in New York, hoping to forget about her awful ex. New Yorker Finn is in love with his best friend's girlfriend. They might be perfect together, but in a city of eight million people, can they find each other?

Official Publication Date: 7th July 2011

3. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

The popular tale of five daughters and how each of them behaves, acts, searches for love, falls into traps, receives proposals and gets about in early life in the nineteenth century. Written beautifully by one of the greatest writers of all time - Jane Austen.

Official Publication Date: 28 January 1813.

Do you like them? Are you looking forward to the release of the first two? And what do you feel about the third, which has been declared one of the all-time classics?

Review: My So-Called Life by Joanna Nadin!

Hurrah! I have finished the first of my twelve all-British novels of 2011! Not in order, mind. OH WELL. Here's a review on one of the funniest, worthwhile reads I have ever set eyes on:

Meet Rachel Riley...
'My life is earth-shatteringly normal. This cannot go on. Something deep and life-changing has to happen. This year I shall befriend mor exotic and interesting people, learn to drink coffee (tragic heroines do not start the day with Cheerios and lemon barley) and capture the heart of Justin Statham with my vintage clothing and knowledge of all-time great guitar solos. It's time for life to change...
starting right NOW!'
I just had to post up the blurb on the back of the book. Honestly, I couldn't sum it up better! Rachel Riley is desperate to be rid of her normal, boring life and replace with excitement and drama. But living in Saffron Walden, well, it isn't party central. Her diary includes embaressing nightmares, flirting shames and fallouts with the newspapers. Though I loved Rachel's dry humour, the star of the book would always be Suzy, Rachel's best friend Scarlet's mum. She is slightly unrealistic, but I loved every detail about what she did. My favourite part was when Rachel was in Cornwall in the summer or Christmas at the end.
I loved the way it was written as a diary, as it is throughout the whole six books. It shared more of Rachel's feelings in every little detail that happened in her year - from Treena being pregnant and delivering her little uncle Jesus, the play, the dog mess incident to the many gay rumours around Sad Ed!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is absolutely fantastic, without much faults, and if you want a good read then find a copy! If your sad, this will get you smiling!

Extention Post; British Book Challenge 2011!

Ok, so maybe not such a quick post. Turns out I have more time on my hands then I thought. So, I'm filling you all in on the BBC 2011 (haha) and why I'm participating!

BBC - British Books Challenge.
The idea, created by Becky from The Bookette and Book Chick City, is all about reading books by Brits only. That means no American, no French, no Japanese or anything other than a good old Brit. For this year, you've got to manage reading twelve novels by English/Scottish/Welsh/ROI authors - hard? Nah! Most authors I've read (quite a few, needless to say) are British!
Old or new titles, in print and out, are all appreciated, and it is focused on YA. The two catagories are Home Grown - in Britain, reading twelve books - and International Friend - reading either six or twelve novels, from around the world! Simples!
To sign up, you:
Write a post on your blog linking back to The Bookette (link below)
Write a list of titles you will read this year (one or two if you can't think of all of them)
Insert the button on my toolbar onto your toolbar (right click and save)
Link your post to the widget on The Bookette post.
And finally, edit this post every time you review in the challenge with a link to the review at the bottom!

The Bookette link - http://www.thebookette.co.uk/2010/12/british-book-challenge-2011.html

My twelve all-British reads for 2011 are:
1. Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azcaban by J.K.Rowling
2. My So-Called Life by Joanna Nadin
3. Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging by Louise Rennison
4. Ballet Shoes by Noel Straitfeild
5. Small Blue Thing by S.C.Ransom
6. Vanilla Skye by Cathy Cassidy (this will be after September, due to release date)
7. Bridesmaid's Club by Cathy Hopkins

10. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
11. Sequins, Stars and Spotlights by Sophia Bennett (again, after February)
12. 32c, That's Me by Chris Higgins

That's me done! Let's see if I can complete it by this time next year. I hope so. Thanks to The Bookette for creating the challenge. I hope you'll join me in celebrating all things British and our incredible Brits storming the bookshelfs around the world - now, where's my cup of tea?

Weekly Wanted: Wishlit Wonders #2

This is just a quickie post. My weekly wanted, number two, as expected:

1. The Clique by Lisi Harrison
Meet the clique: Massie Block - with her glossy brunette bob and clear white smile, Massie is the uncontested ruler of the Clique and the rest of the social scene at Octovian Country Day School, an exclusive private school at Westchester, New York. Dylan Marvil - Massie's second in command, Dylan divides her time between sucking up to Massie and sucking down Atkins shakes to try and get rid of the extra fifteen pounds that seem to leave her hips alone. Alicia Rivera - as sneaky as she is beautiful, Alicia floats easily under the adult radar because she is so 'sweet'. Would love to take Massie's throne any day. Might just do it... Kristen Gregory - Kristen has been dying to fit in ever since her parents went broke. She's smart, hard-working and will insult you to tears faster then you can say 'scholarship kid'. Claire Lyons - the new girl from Florida, Claire is staying at a guesthouse on Massie's fmaily estate. She is definetly not Clique material, yet Massie's family insist she keep her in the gang. Claire's future looks worse than a bad Prada knock-off, but with a little luck and a lot of scheming, she might just come up smelling of Chanel No. 19...

2. Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick
For Nora Grey, romance was never part of the plan. She's never been attracted to the guys of her school,no matter how much her best friend Vee pushes them towards her. Until she met Patch. With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Norma is drawn to him against her better judgement. But after a series of terryfing encounters, Nora is not sure who to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is, and knows more about her then her closest friends. She can't decide whether to fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek out some answers, she finds herself near a truth way more unsettling than Patch is. For Nora is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those that has fallen - and when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice could cost her her life.

Politics and passion are inextricably bound together in this compelling drama. The Boleyn family is keen to rise through the ranks of society, and what better way to attract the attention of the most powerful in the land then to place their most beautiful young woman at court? But Mary becomes the King's mistress at a time of change. He needs his personal pleasures, but he also needs a heir. The unthinkable happens and the course of English history is irrevocably changed. For the women at the heart of the storm, they only have one weapon; and when it is no longer enough to be his mistress, Mary must groom her younger sister in the ways of the king.

Updates

Just a quickie post about stuff happening, as this blog has 'life' in the title. No review, not until next week or so, when I finish the last few chapters in my book. Until then, here are the eight awesome things happening for me so far in 2011:

1. MUSIC! 2011 music is A.M.A.Z.I.NG. And, more rather, Bruno Mars is. Last year (yup, let's go there) he sang a few, er, songs. I don't remember them, except for the recent one, the ballad-love-song-y Just The Way You Are. But cast away those thoughts, 'cus you haven't sampled Grenade yet! Unless your American, you won't know. Click on the player on the side to track three and listen. Be happy. Sing along. Dance around. Then sit down and carry on reading. That's a good girl/boy.

2. BOOK COVERS! All the new novels of the year have new covers. Check out old-fashion glamour Bright Young Things' cover, for instance. I want her hair. And then books are3. being given a total re-vamp. In June, YA author and favourite Cathy Cassidy's every book is being issued a new cover in paperback! I can't wait to see the new versions of all my favourite reads by Cathy, who I have met twice before and is lovely.

3. BLOG TOURS! Sophia Bennett has announced a blog tour for her third book in February. This includes stops at The Beaucoup Review, The Mile Long Bookshelf and Chicklish, in guest posts, interviews, giveaways and exclusive snippets of the book. It. Will. Be. Awesome.

4. PEOPLE BEING HAPPY! A lot of people I've met are happy for the new year. Which makes me smile. Which (those last three words) are the title of another song I love. By Pearl & The Puppet's. Pearl has a cool nickname for herself: Pearly Pops! Haha. I want one like that! The song makes your all happy inside, which is good. Kudos to everyone thumbing up 2011!

5. PENCIL CASES! Ok, I know. Very random. But, seriously, some people have INCREDIBLE pencil cases! Try ones by Clippy - you buy a simple pencil case made of plain plastic for £8, then slide in your favourite magazine clipping inside and voila! An unique pencil case for under a tenner! I think this is soooooooooo 'mazing. Almost as much as birthday cupcakes and purple umbrellas.

6. STRANGE 'SOOOO-2011' GADGETS! Shops are full of cool stuff these days. On Totally Funky, you can buy a pencil-shaped phone stylus, a sound machine, hearts shower cap (WANT THIS SO BADLY) and a 'Blow Monkey'. Which is a monkey-shaped machine-thingy that dries your nails when they are wet with polish. If you are interested in buying any of the above, clicky this link for the website: http://www.totally-funky.co.uk/

7. FILMS! I always knew that this year would be good: its the year before the Olympics and the 'end of the world' (whatever, I am NOT dying age thirteen). But, the big deal is movies! BREAKING DAWN (best Twilight saga book) PART ONE! The romantic wedding scene! Bella's dress! Aww. It's 'bout time they hitched. THE LAST HARRY POTTER! I am going to cry at the end, I just know I will.

8. TV! GLEE! I was soooooo chuffed on Monday when Glee returned. I can't wait for Brittany/Britney, when they do Brit Spears, and of course Sectionals. No, I can't wait for it all. It's about time the sing-song people returned to telly and began making everyone feel amazing. And being our excuse for belting out 'Don't Stop Believing' in Maths.

Sorry for the funny 'eight number' thing. Ten didn't work out. Now, I'm off to finish my book, Google and watch more Glee. I'll never know all the words to Somebody to Love* at this speed. Zoom Zoom*!

* Don't Stop Believing got boring.
* Lauren Luke (YouTube beautician and amazing woman) uses this to sign off her tutorials. :)

Review: Threads by Sophia Bennett!

I'm getting used to this. And used to thinking up good points for the big review. Which is what this is. In 27 days, 5 hours, 56 minutes and 24 seconds, the finale of the Threads series is released onto the bookshelf. And with it will come tears, cheers and a wedding gown. I am on tenderhooks. See below of the blurb of the third book, Sequins, Stars and Spotlights, which is on my first wishlist for the new challenge. And fall in love.
But before that, there are two other installments. These hold a trip to India, a boy with a sweaty upper lip *shiver*, a girl in a tutu and two beautiful covers. One that has three versions. WEIRD? But still gorgeous. Over Christmas, I reread the first, Threads, and here is all details - which might get you hooked. Hopefully.
When Nonie and her best friends, Jenny and Edie, find a girl with an afro and a taste for fashion, it changes their lives. The whole book is about how Crow, the girl with the afro, starts her glittering career in fashion by designing a collection for London Fashion Week. And how Jenny copes with being the newest movie star on the block, and Edie becoming the top-notch student of every teacher's dream.
At first, it was hard for me to understand it all, but three chapters in and I was loving every word. The details of the dresses, based on the Twelve Dancing Princess, thrilled me and so did the turvy Jenny story. By the end, the characters are like your best friends! Fourteen-year-old Nonie narrates, which is witty and fun, and Sophia Bennett has made her individual and as stand out as the three people around her, being the only one who's future is unclear.
The plot of Crow was neverending and linked to almost everything brilliantly, solving all the answers of the questions you have. The idea of a young fashion designer changing your lives is so unusual yet it is written as if it is entirely real. If that makes sense! It's a heartwarming novel with a lovely ending, with just enough to keep you hanging on for the next one. Which is even more FABULOUS.
I have heard of four covers - the Giles Decon one, then three versions of the one above. I have the one upwards, which is my personal favourite, though I suppose I like them all. Except for the silver dress one, which doesn't match and doesn't really give off the striking, 'isn't that awesome?' feel of the whole novel!

Introduction and Weekly Wanted; Wishlit Wonders #1

I'm not very good with hellos. And, come to think of it, goodbyes. But this isn't a goodbye - it's a big fat die-for chocolate cake-sized HELLO! Mmm, chocolate cake... no no, Kate, don't get distracted! Kate, that's me, I'm twelve going on thirteen (a month yesterday to go) and my life goes around my reading, to be honest. I'm gonna be reviewing loads of books, obvs, as well as other stuff, 'cus just books is a little bit boring! My friend has pages of super-fun iPod Touch apps I can review, then there is movies and magazines and music and other stuff. Most of it is booky related, though!!!!!!
So I thought I'd start with a challenge EVERYONE is doing. Weekly Wanted; Wishlit Wonders is all the rage on blogs like The Beaucoup Review and The Mile Long Bookshelf (I do follow them - check them out they are both very good!) and I thought, yeah, I'll take part in this. And you should too. Here's how:

1.Post up three books you can't wait to read or wish for.
2.Post up the blurb/synopsis.
3.Post up the front cover!
Three easy steps to join in. My wishlit wonders are *drum roll!*:

1. Bright Young Things by Anna Godbersen!

In the anything-goes era of the roaring twenties, all the world belongs to bright young things. They're flappers and socialites - carefree girls chasing dreams and seeking thrills - and Letty Larkspur, Cordelia Grey and Astrid Donal shine bright than all the rest. On a hot summers night in 1929, Letty and Cordelia escape their small Midwestern town for New York. There, they'll find love, chase fame and meet a flapper called Astrid, who has everything a girl could want. Across the vast lawns of Long Island, in the illicit speakeasies of Manhattan, and on the blingingly lit stages of Broadway, the three girl's fortunes will rise and fall as they match towards their own secret fates.

Official Publication Date: 6th January 2011.

2. Threads: Sequins, Stars & Spotlights by Sophia Bennett
Now in their last school year, best friends Nonie, Edie, Crow and Jenny are so close to beginning glittering careers. So why do their challenges seem suddenly seem otherwhelming? The girls have choices to make. Who will wait for fame and success? Who will emerge an outright star? Who will fall in love? And who will turn their back on all their dreams? Third in the fabulous but sharply observed and compassionate Threads series.

Official Publication Date: 7th February 2011.

3. I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have To Kill You by Ally Carter

The Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women is a fairly typical all-girls school, that is, if every school taught advanced martial arts in PE, the latest in chemical warfare in science; and pupils received extra credict for breaking CIA codes computer class. So in truth, Gallagher Academy might claim to be a school for geniuses but is actually a school for spies. Cammie Morgan is a second-generation Gallagher Girl, and by her sophomore year she's already fluent in fourteen languages and able to kill a man in seven different ways (three include a piece of uncooked spaghetti). But the one thing Gallagher Academy hasn't prepared her for is what to do when she falls in love with an ordinary boy who thinks she is an ordinary girl. Sure, she can tap his phone, hack his computer and track him through a mall without his ever being the wiser, but can she have a regular relationship with a regular boy who can never know the truth about her? Cammie may be an elite spy in training, but in her sophomore year she's beginning her most dangerous mission: she's falling in love.
